Opening Blog

One of my favorite blogs is a very simple one called Open Apologies. In it the blogger makes some simple but profound observations about his life as a follower of Christ. Sometimes they are transparent thoughts or simple ways we live differently than what we profess. For instance, this was his blog post from last friday:

"today I need to offer a sincere apology to all the Christmas lights in my house.

You see at times I’ve found myself sitting in a darkened room being warmed by the glow they radiate, which is not a bad thing…what is bad is when I’ve let the “Christmas Holiday” or “my memories” or “the good feelings” outshine the most pure and only reason for this season. There is nothing wrong with a cup of eggnog while listening to a Bing Crosby album, singing carols, wrapping presents, while wearing my favorite sweater…but dare I dampen why this thing exists?

Sorry to Christmas lights and everything I’ve even for a moment found comfort in that is not my King."

Well, it has got me thinking that there are probably many of us that want an opportunity to share from our hearts both those things we get caught up in that we know are not pleasing to God as well as those things we see from the Christian community at large. So, I thought I would start a blog that would elicit those kind of thoughts from you (whoever reads or follows this blog eventually) and to stimulate good discussion with the hope that it stirs us as the Body of Christ to walk more intimately with Christ and to love those around us more deeply. Welcome to "Confessions of an Ordinary Man". I hope you enjoy and participate with me!
